Simple Storage Tip for Longer-Lasting Fresh Herbs

Simple Storage Tip for Longer-Lasting Fresh Herbs
I shared this tip on my Facebook page when I first started my blog. Many people weren't aware of this, so I figured it was time to make a post for anyone that missed out. I've been storing my fresh herbs (ones that aren't planted) like this for a long time and they last 2-4 weeks this way (longer if you remember to change the water occasionally). Now, there are other ways you can store herbs (and you can freeze them as well), but this is how I like to store mine when I want to have fresh herbs on hand (since I kill most of the ones I plant).

Want to plant herbs in mason jars instead? HERE is a post for that.

Basic Storage for Longer-Lasting Herbs
*This method is for soft herbs only: basil, cilantro, parsley

Simple Storage Tip for Longer-Lasting Fresh Herbs1. Snip the ends of the herb stems (as you would with flowers).

2. Fill a glass or jar* less than halfway with water (enough to cover bottom of stems).

3. Place herbs in the jar and cover loosely with a plastic bag (I save bags and reuse them). Cilantro is best in the refrigerator. Basil likes room temp (on a counter). Parsley will take either (refrigerated works best for me).

4. Change water out every 3-5 days. Herbs should last anywhere from 2-4 weeks (or longer).

*I use pint sized mason jars because they are more sturdy than a drinking glass. (I'm clumsy and I may or may not have spilled a glass of herbs.)
