For those interested in
which products (food and non-food) I use and where I get them (and
explanations if you need them), I decided to put them all here. While I
try to purchase locally when I can and most of my food consists of meat
and produce, when it comes to pantry products, I am able to find
significant savings by purchasing many of these online. If you are
looking for additional resources (websites, blogs, books, etc.) go here. If there is something you are looking for I missed, let me know. I'll add more as I think of it. You can also check out my Amazon store!
Please
note: Many of these links are affiliate links. These are only links to
products I use myself. I will receive a small commission if you order
through some of the links (your price doesn't change). This helps
maintain the blog and allow me to keep putting out free
information/recipes. Thank you for your support!
Food products include:
canned/jarred, coconut products, condiments/vinegars, fats/oils,
flours/starches, pastured meats, random, salt/spices, supplements.
Non-food products include: Essential/carrier oils, personal care, mouth care.

Canned/Jarred Products
Canned salmon/tuna: An
healthy and fairly inexpensive source of Omega3 fats. I don't eat much
tuna, but love canned salmon (salmon cake recipe here). I love Wild
Planet! Vitacost is more affordable than the grocery store for me.
Find them here.
Canned sardines: Very
nutrient-dense and low-mercury seafood! I eat them at least once a
week. After trying many brands, I
prefer Wild Planet.
They are larger sardines which I don't mind. I have a recipe (not
posted yet) using them that I love. Recently, I tried the small ones and
loved them. Crown Prince brand was very good (Mediterranean one does have
sunflower oil). I usually get sardines Vitacost or in bulk from
Amazon.
Coconut milk: see coconut products
Jarred tomatoes: I try to avoid cans as much as possible, so with tomatoes, I buy these Bionaturae from Tropical Traditions. They are also on Amazon. Bionaturae also carries jarred tomato paste.
Pumpkin: Of course fresh pumpkin is best. But for pumpkin recipes where I prefer to use canned or don't have pumpkins available, I like Farmer's Market brand.
It's BPA-free and uses real pumpkin (many brands can be a mix of winter
squash). I usually get it at my local health food store or on Vitacost . You can also buy it on Amazon here.
Coconut products
Coconut, dried (shredded, flakes, chips): Make coconut butter or use in anything from desserts to breading chicken. I typically purchase from Tropical Traditions.
Coconut butter (aka coconut cream concentrate OR coconut manna): Read more about coconut butter here and find my recipes using it here. My favorite is Tropical Traditions, but I usually buy Artisana which I get from Vitacost.
Coconut flour: Used as an alternative to wheat-based flours (cannot
be substituted 1:1). Coconut flour absorbs liquid (so you use very
little) and is generally used with a large number of eggs when baking.
(My one-minute brownie and crab cakes are exceptions.) Can also be used as thickener or breading. The only brand I've used is Tropical Traditions coconut flour and I'm very happy with it.
Coconut milk: Used
as substitute for cow's milk and works well as a substitute without
imparting too much coconut flavor. I buy several different brands of
full-fat canned coconut milk (refrigerated cartons are full of
additives), but these are my favorites (Amazon links): Natural Value (no guar gum, BPA free), Native Forest (contains guar gum, BPA free), Thai Kitchen which seems to work best for coconut whipped cream (contains guar gum).
Coconut oil: I generally used Nutiva which I purchase in a two pack through Amazon's subscribe and save. I have purchased Vitacost coconut oil, Tropical Traditions, and other brand from Costco (depends on my budget). If you don't enjoy the taste of coconut oil, you can find a quality expeller-pressed (and flavor-free) coconut oil from Tropical Traditions.
Coconut aminos: see condiments
Condiments/Vinegars
Apple cider vinegar: Used
in place of white vinegar in recipes. Also, great for use in beauty,
like in this ACV Toner. You can also drink 1-3 tbsp per day (diluted in
water) for health benefits. I use Bragg's ACV which is unfiltered and
organic. It is affordable through Vitacost where I tend to purchase
several pantry items. Find it here. I've also used Vitacost brand and Eden Organic from Tropical Traditions.
Balsamic Vinegar: Another
vinegar that can be used in salad dressings or to add flavor when
roasting vegetables. I like Bionaturae or the
Kirkland brand which you can find at Costco or on Amazon.
Coconut Aminos: Soy-free alternative for soy sauce made from coconut. Best price I've found is through Vitacost.
Fish Sauce:
Adds umami flavor to dishes. Especially great for use in Asian dishes.
Red Boat is the only paleo-approved fish sauce. It's expensive, but a
little goes a long way. Find it on Amazon or Vitacost (cheapest).
Gluten-free Tamari: Because
coconut aminos is a bit costly, I also keep this brand of gluten-free
soy sauce on hand. You can buy gluten-free tamari on Amazon or Vitacost.
Mayonnaise: It is very hard to find mayo without soybean or canola oil, so I make
mine own. Here's my recipe. Sir Kensington's is the only one I know of
that is paleo-ish (uses sunflower oil). I recently spotted it at Earth
Fare, so you can possibly find at any health food store. It's also on Vitacost!
Mustard: Mustard
is pretty easy to find with clean ingredients. I like Eden Organic
which is made with apple cider vinegar. I get it from Vitacost or Tropical Traditions.
Fats/Oils
Avocado oil: Makes a delicious mayo! Great alternative to EVOO for cold use. I use La Tourangelle avocado oil which I've purchased from Target and Amazon. Some people have found avocado oil at Costco as well. For the avocado oil I like for topical (beauty) use, see personal care/carrier oils.
Coconut oil: see more in coconut section
Ghee: Lactose
and casein-free alternative to butter. Some people that can't eat
butter tolerate ghee. I use it for potatoes, rice, frying, mayo, etc.
See more in this post. I'm a big fan of Pure Indian Foods, but honestly I usually buy Purity Farms on Vitacost because it is more affordable. Or, make your own!
Palm shortening (unrefined): Alternative
to shortening. Great for frying and making frosting or biscuits. Two
brands that are sustainable and do not contribute to deforestation are Nutiva Organic Shortening and Spectrum Organic (links are for most affordable prices I've found).
Extra Virgin olive oil: Because
olive oil can sometimes include other oils, right now I use California
Olive Ranch or Bionaturae. I'm sure there are other great brands, but
these are most affordable for me. I've purchased Bionaturae from Vitacost or Tropical Traditions. California Olive Ranch, the one I normally buy, can be found at regular grocers. I've purchased it at Target, Walmart (cheapest), and Vitacost.
Sesame oil: Adds great flavor, especially to Asian dishes. I like to use it in my Ginger, Garlic & Lime Chicken marinade. I don't have a particular favorite brand at the moment. Here's a great brand for a reasonable price on Amazon. Find it here.
Flours and Starches
Almond flour: Used in baked goods and as a breading, such as in my crispy zucchini coins. The best deal is likely the 5lb bags of Honeyville
(and it's a favorite on paleo blogs), but since I don't use much almond
flour, I usually buy from bulk section at my local Earth Fare or this brand from Vitacost.
Arrowroot flour/starch: Used in baked goods, breading, and as a thickener (like in my pudding). I use Bob's Red Mill from Vitacost. Find it here. It's also available on Amazon (and in health food stores).
Coconut flour: see coconut products
Tapioca flour/starch: Used
in baked goods, breading, and as a thickener. It can generally be
substituted for arrowroot starch and is a bit cheaper. I use Bob's Red
Mill, which I get from Vitacost or my local health food store. Find it here. It is also available on Amazon.
Grass fed Beef/Chicken/etc. (grass-fed and pastured)
*I have not purchased meats, etc from most of these companies yet. But I have researched them and plan to when feasible for me.*
US Wellness Meats: Grass-fed, pastured, and wild caught meats, poultry, and eggs.
Grassfed Traditions have
purchased other products here: soy-free eggs and grassfed and pastured meats
Radiant Life have purchased other products here:
They have wild-caught seafood and healthy fats. (They also have, salts,
superfood supplements (like dessicated liver, Vitamin C, etc.), and
more.)
Primal Pacs (have purchased these): grassfed jerky packs (including delicious dried mango)
Random
Chocolate bars - gluten/dairy/soy-free: more coming soon... (See my Homemade Andes mints for some that I like.)
Chocolate chips: I usually get Enjoy Life brand which are free of soy and dairy. I get them from Earth Fare or Vitacost.
Seaweed: Good source of iodine. I love Roasted Seaweed Snacks which I like to eat wrapped around avocado. I also like to use nori sheets
for sushi rolls or to add iodine and flavor to homemade broth. My
favorite brand of roasted seaweed is SeaSnax with olive oil which you
can find at some health food stores, Vitacost (cheapest), or Amazon.
Tea (bulk): I get bulk teas from Mountain Rose Herbs. My favorites are red roobios, chai, forests tea, and matcha (use in my Andes mints!). Find them here.
Rice: Okay,
so rice isn't strict paleo, but I love white rice (and long ago, I
hated it!) and eat it occasionally. I've found that I'm very picky about
which rice I like, so I'll share my favorite. Texas Best Organic (I prefer jasmine). Best white rice I've tried! I get it from Earth Fare, but it's also on Vitacost.
Salt & Spices
Unrefined sea salt: My favorite brand is Real Salt which I get from Vitacost. Find it here. And I love my little pocket shaker! You can also find it on Amazon or directly through the Redmond Trading website. I also like this Celtic sea salt.
Bulk herbs/spices: I use a lot of spices, especially sweet cinnamon, cumin, and turmeric. I get most of these in bulk spices from Mountain Rose Herbs. Find them here.
Herbs (bottled): While I try to purchase many herbs in bulk to save money, I also purchase the Earth Fare or Frontier brand.
Sweeteners
Honey: One of my most used sweeteners. When
able, I get local honey from the market. I also like this Y.S. Eco Bee Farms raw honey
which I get from Vitacost. My absolute favorite raw honey is Tropical Traditions (but I can only get it if it's on sale).
Maple syrup: My
other most used sweetener. Costco seems to be the cheapest option for a
large bottle. I also buy fairly inexpensive pure maple syrup from the
regular grocery
store (check ingredients to make sure it's pure maple syrup). I really
like Coombs Family Farms which can be found here (Vitacost) or here (Amazon).
more to come...
(If
you are a new customer to Vitacost, you can save $10 on your first order by using
my refer-a-friend link. Then pass your link on to a friend to help them
save while you benefit as well.)
Vitamins/Real food supplements
*Please contact your doctor before beginning any new vitamins or supplements*
Aloe Vera Juice: Great for gut health. I get these two from Vitacost: Lily of the Desert and George's Always Active.
Gelatin: Great
for gut health and many other things. Learn
more about the different types in my gelatin post. I
get my Great Lakes gelatin from Amazon. Find the red can (the one used for gummies) here and the green can (doesn't gel) here.
Liver powder:
I finally found a source for grass-fed liver, but before that I
purchased a dessicated liver powder from Radiant Life. They have
capsules as well, but the powder is more cost effective. I just throw it
in smoothies and don't notice the taste at all. Find it here.
L-glutamine: For gut health and sugar cravings. I get this one from Amazon.
Magnesium: My
#1 supplement! I've tried several types to get my magnesium: magnesium glycinate (easier to absorb and doesn't cause bowel issues), magnesium citrate, magnesium oil spray (my favorite method). And of course there are epsom salts (for soaking). I get those at Costco. I've heard good things about Natural Calm as well.
Ox bile: Since my gallbladder was removed, I take this to help my
body digest fats. There are several good brands, but I've taken this one with success.
Vitamin C: I like this buffered Vitamin C and the food based Vitamin C (not absorbic acid) from Radiant Life.
Non-Food Products
Essential oils/Carrier oils/Butters/etc.
Dried herbs/roots (lavender, chamomile, dandelion, etc): Used for teas and infusing carriers oil for making products. I get most through Mountain Rose Herbs.
Carrier Oils for skin: Used for making skin care products and oil (face) cleansing. Again, I use MRH. Sometimes, Amazon. Some of my favorite carrier oils (click name to see which I buy): Sweet almond, Avocado, Tamanu, Neem, Rosehip, Hempseed, Hazelnut, Apricot, Argan oil (from Vitacost), Jojoba (Vitacost), Castor oil, Avocado
Butters (shea, mango, cocoa): Used to make products such as lip balm, lotions, etc. I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs.
Beeswax: Used for lip balms, salves, and other homemade skin care products. I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs.
Mountain Rose Herbs essential oils: Essential oils have many
uses. You can find my post that use them through this link. I'm not
attached to a certain brand, but I have been happy with MRH for a few
years now. Shipping can add up, so try to order with a friend if
possible. Find oils here.
Aura Cacia essential oils: I purchased this brand even before I knew much about essential oils. I'm pretty happy with them and I now get them through Vitacost. You can find them on Amazon as well.
(If
you are a new customer to Vitacost, you can save $10 on your first order by using
my refer-a-friend link. Then pass your link on to a friend to help them
save while you benefit as well.)
Personal Care
Activated Charcoal (food grade):
Aloe vera gel:
Bentonite Clay: Used for face masks, detoxing (externally and
internally), and many other personal care uses. I love Redmond Clay and
have purchased the one from Mountain Rose Herbs (and I've used their other clays as well). I get Redmond Clay from Vitacost.
Castile soap: Great for cleaning, shampoo, face wash, etc. I get Dr. Bronner's bars for regular use and making hand soap. I also like Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap, but I started using Dessert Essence because it's much cheaper and still good quality. Find Dessert Essence liquid castile soap here.
Hydrosols (flower waters): I get these, especially my favorite Rose Water, from Mountain Rose Herbs.
Mouth care
Earthpaste toothpaste: Natural toothpaste made with clay, salt, essential oils. Cheapest price I've found is Vitacost or Iherb. (Save $10 off your first Iherb order with the code JAC411)
OraWellness brushing blend (and toothbrushes): Brushing blend made with essentials oils. I've been happy with this product for over a year now. Find it here.
